Learning About Our Coast

One of the best ways to learn about our coast is to participate in a fishing tournament in our area. Fishing is one of the many things that makes our area a thriving coastal attraction. This weekend, from July 27th to July 29th, the 29th Annual Band the Billfish Ducks Unlimited Tournament will be taking place. You can register to fish and keep up with the tournament here http://www.ncdubillfish.com/, or you can go watch the daily meat fish weigh-ins to learn more about our local fish species.

Our Duke University Marine Lab is holding an Open House on Saturday, July 29th from 1-3 pm. This is a cool opportunity to go behind the scenes of the scientific research happening in our area. Lab demonstrations, touch tanks, videos, and meetings with the scientists will be available to both children and adults! Call 252 504-7535 for more information.

You can learn about astronomy from almost any location, but learning about it while looking over the water is hard to beat. Fort Macon State Park is holding an astronomy program on Thursday, July 27th and Friday, August 11th at 8:30 pm. Use a telescope to find stars and learn more about our universe! Go to https://www.ncparks.gov/fort-macon-state-park/events-and-programs?page=1 to find more events and programs offered at Fort Macon.
